Charter: The tribe operates under the Indian Reorganization Act of June 18, 1934
Name of governing body: Tribal Council
Number of council members: The Lovelock Paiute Tribe is governed by 5
members, 3 of which must reside on the Lovelock Indian Colony
Elections: Council members are elected every two years in June and on Staggered
four year terms.
Current Tribal Council:
The chairman of the Council presides over all Council meetings. He performs all the duties of the Chairman
and he exercises any authority regarding tribal matters.
The Vice-Chairman of the Council assists the Chairman when called upon to do so. In the absence of the
Chairman, he will preside. When so presiding he has all the rights, privileges and duties, as well as the
responsibilities of the Chairman.
The Secretary of the Council keeps the minutes of the Council meetings. The Secretary certifies the
enactment of all ordinances, law and order codes, and resolutions, and makes proper distribution of such.
On behalf of the Council, the Secretary receives all petitions provided for in the Constitution, and distributes
notices and information relating to meetings, announcements, and decisions of the council. The Secretary
supervises over matters relating to enrollment, membership, and elections.
